8. Hong Kong - Fun in the Far East

Hong Kong - ProNet World Tour Far East  Wing - Jan / April 2004

Hong Kong! The tour log now shows a total of 26,000 Km and 8 months travelled to finally cross the International Date Line. This is a seriously busy, bustling country. There are 6.7 million people living in an area of 423 sq. miles. Fortunately for ProNet, we have an excellent host in Stephen Fan, the boss and owner of CyberHeli. Stephen lives and breathes RC Heli's, and is a first class businessman to boot. Here we are, inbound to the private CyberHeli Field and testing grounds, downwind in the circuit with clearance to the ramp for landing. Our ProNet Pilot for Hong Kong is Michael Leung, Reigning China and Singapore National F3C Champion and CyberHeli's lead pilot for the Hong Kong WC team flying X-Cell Pro 2K.

Yikes! the ramp is saturated with big iron helis... several 3DNTs and one VisionX, along with the Furys, Freya and Raptors, everyone flying with Webra Engines supplied by CyberHeli! This is CyberHeli's private field/testing grounds about the size of 6 football fields, wetland in some area and right next to the China/HK border. Fortunately, ProNet is small and doesn't take up much space, and the other Helis were quite willing to accommodate this tiny visitor from the west.

After that long flight over Europe, the Middle East and China, Michael Leung and Alan Kan check out the ProNet's mechanics  in preparation for our local flying adventures over the next little while. On the right is a Hong Kong Photo Op moment at Cyber Field. Alan is the guy in the white T-shirt. He flies a Tempest 3D, and  is the top local 3D guy and possibly will enter next year's 3D Master expert class. Michael is in the one in red. So we are in very good hands, it will be fun.

Introductions finished, it's time to get down to business. We have a lot of places to go, and the Great Wall will be a challenge as will Shanghai. Practice, practice, practice ..  Here, Michael works on confined space hovering in preparation for the work ahead of us. Since CyberHeli won't give us time off, we will make do by working out at the front counter at the store. Click on the Photo for more on Over the Counter selling..

Touring the Harbour.. If you've been to Hong Kong, you won't mistake the Floating Restaurant and the spectacular view from the water. The Zen Master invited us to dinner, and here we have ProNet on final approach to the Floating Restaurant, then landing on deck with the Master at the controls.

Well, the dinner was great, but the ride back was a bit rough. The old tail injuries from back in the USA are still nagging this old frame, so it's time to rethink the whole tail deal. Fortunately for ProNet, a top notch RC Heli Mechanical Engineer and his father  happened by the CyberHeli Shop to offer input as the contemplation continued. I'm sure these folks need no introduction to those of you who follow the R/C competition circuits, but for the rest of us unwashed, pictured here at the Cyber Table is Curtis YoungBlood  and Senior at the shop.

Back in the air with the modified tail, we did some sightseeing at Repulse Bay, the most famous beach in Hong Kong. In the background is the famous Tin Hau Temple, the Patron of all Fishermen. Tin Hau means Mother of the Sky, and today she called for overcast.

It's time to move on to Bali. Our departure point is in front of the series of bridges connecting the HK Island and Kowloon Peninsula with Lantau Island where the new airport is. In the background is the longest bridge in the world that carries simultaneously cars and trains. A fitting conclusion to a great stop on the tour.
