| Virginia - ProNet World Tour August 21 2003 | | | Since we left Dallas, we've flown North East for another 1500 miles to Ashburn, Virginia. The new pilot at the controls is Aobid Aziz. It's been two months since leaving Victoria, and we've traveled a total of 6,900 km so far. Somewhere between Texas and Virginia we were bounced by a USPS Eagle, and took a direct hit on the EDF. The Eagle took the worst of the damage from our 2300rpm rotor, and may have spiraled into a power line somewhere near Cleveland. We aren't sure what happened after the lights went out, but we ended up here in Virginia Emergency, where Aobid took charge. | | | | | | | Here's a close-up of the damage. If you look closely, you can see the USPS Claw marks. The Eagle, up on the perch, dove out of the sun on our starboard side. We're thankful to just be here, safe and semi-sound, and in good hands, complete with two Virginia-style guard dogs on duty while we recover... | | | | | | | | | Sometimes a problem is really a blessing in disguise. In this case, we ended up with a far superior EDF structure to the one we had leaving Victoria. Aobid wrapped a belt of CF TOW around the duct in a way that produces a very effective and strong attachment point to the boom. With the tail back on, we are ready for the test flight.. | | | | | Just showing off a bit, Aobid the designer is also the Pilot and the camera person at the same time. Note the hi speed take off and the very artistic photo effects he's managed, while crossing fingers that the repairs will work. Virginia is a great State, with a great deal of history. We are thankful that Aobid had the skills to take care of us to recuperate from our damage. CLICK HERE for the leaving Virginia Video .... | | |
